Library Program Years 7 – 12
The Library at Noble Park Secondary College is a stimulating and dynamic learning environment, which aims to produce an information rich, and literature enriched College community. The Library also aims to provide services and curriculum resources of the highest quality and relevance. We focus on supporting student learning, providing access to diverse resources and a stimulating environment that allows students access to good literature, quality research facilities and excellent audiovisual facilities. The Library staff work towards ensuring that every student has access to a variety of quality, relevant, accurate and current information resources.
- Provides an effective information skills program across the curriculum that enables students to develop their ability to locate, interpret and present information in a technologically rich environment.
- Encourages and promotes the importance of reading for pleasure and information.
- Provides and extensive and relevant collection of curriculum resources to support the learning and leisure needs of the school community.
- Provides an attractive and welcoming physical environment.
- Provides a secure and easily accessible Library intranet facility linked to the library catalogue of resources and the Internet.
Library Resources
The Library is exceptionally well resourced with:
- · Over 25,000 fiction and non-fiction texts, videos, kits, CD ROMs and audiotapes.
- · Has an extensive magazine collection.
- · Backdated copies of newspapers.
- · Reference collection including current encyclopaedias.
Fiction Collection
Special emphasis is placed on providing an extensive range of fiction. Included are:
- The College reading programs ROCC (Read On Comfy Chairs); for Year 7 and 8 students and BAT (Books Are Terrific) especially for Year 7 to 9 ESL students.
- A large fiction collection organised under genres.
- Fiction material in a range of languages including Bosnian, Vietnamese and Chinese.
- The Go For Goal IT composed of material especially to encourage boys to read for enjoyment.
- A Recommended collection of current fiction titles for senior students and staff.
Creating a Library that is viewed by the College community as always approachable, helpful and flexible is important. At Noble Park Secondary College we are very successful at this, as the library is a busy place, not only during class time but also at recess and lunchtime when both private study requirements and the fun aspects of games and reading for pleasure are catered to.
Special Programs
The Library at Noble Park Secondary College offers a range of special programs and facilities that include:
- Up-to-date VCE Reference collection.
- Access to Clickview, a digital video learning system incorporating recordings of free to air programs.
- Current affairs collection extensively used by all students and especially VCE English and ESL students.
- Quiet ROCC reading areas.
- Networked computers for individual student and class use.
- Quick Facts collection with easy to find information.
- Large range of Audio Visual equipment including digital cameras and video cameras for student use.
- Library competitions.
- Access to a range of Indexes and Abstracting services.
- Library Intranet with recommended web site listings.
- Student access to colour printer and scanner and photocopier
- Caring and helpful staff.
- Changing displays including student work.
